(Women Partners in Livelihood)
A non-governmental organization, KAKASAHA, aims to help women in the informal sector acquire the means to meet their basic family needs and improve their economic conditions through advocacy of their labor rights, access to opportunities, protection from unfair labor practices, and increase participation in local, national and international planning bodies. It also supports social partnership between community and industry, in the pursuit of national economic development, and helps promote investor-friendly Philippines through actual involvement in the monitoring of labor standards compliance, as well as anti-graft and corruption campaigns.
The WINNER-KAKASAHA partnership began in February 2000 when a number of its members attended the WINNER training courses on E-commerce and International Trade held at TESDA-Las Pinas City, as well as the training courses on Web Page Development and Enterprise Management held at the WINNER office in August 2001. With the participation of selected KAKASAHA members in the WINNER training programs, interest in E-commerce for micro- and small enterprises from its members in the far-flung provinces in Mindanao, has grown. This eventually resulted in the installation of a WINNER Help Desk at the KAKASAHA office in Las Pinas City. A training course attended by its members, particularly former factory workers who were laid-off due to company shutdowns, was also held during the Help Desk launching ceremony.
Established in 1997, the organization has over 2,450 members from the National Capital Region (Metro Manila), the Cordillera Autonomous Region in the north and the Agusan and Surigao provinces in the island of Mindanao, in the south. It also has 540 coalition sister organizations in other provinces such as Cebu, Negros Occidental, Rizal and Tarlac.
