Steel Exporters Benefit from Internet Portal

With more than 150 companies having joined since its recent launch, the South African steel industry’s internet-based Africa Trade Steel Export Portal, ( http://www.steeltrade.co.za) is proving invaluable to local exporters of value-added steel products.

Today, Afrox, Whirlpool, Power Profile, MM&G Engineering, Robor and Lasher Tools are amongst the companies that are benefitting from showcasing their products and services on custom-designed, export-oriented shopfront hosted by the portal.

The South Africa Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI) and TIPS South Africa, supported by Trade and Investment South Africa (TISA), launched the in April last year to assist South African manufacturers to boost exports.

Joining the portal means that the manufacturer receives its own shopfront, which is hosted within the portal. In addition to assistance with reactive and proactive promotion, manufacturers that have joined the portal have access to much-needed information relating to the export process and international markets. Peripheral service providers such as financial institutions, trade risk underwriters and a variety of logistical service providers are also represented on the portal to assist exporter in compiling acceptable quotations. Most importantly however, portal members receive validated and un-validated business enquiries from the international market.

Moreover, a total of 500 companies’ membership of the Africa Trade Steel Export Portal are sponsored for a period of six months, thus assisting them in having their shopfronts developed and hosted, while also giving them free access to the information and services provided by the portal.
